Meet the Team – Spencer Delf
Spencer joined Green Light in June 2020, in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic, following a 7 month period teaching English in Alexandria, Egypt. Spencer has previously worked across different settings, including mainstream primary schools through to working in young offender institutes (YOI) to reduce behaviour that challenge within the prison system. He obtained his Master Degree from the University of South Wales (USW) and a Postgraduate Diploma from the same institute, completing placements at USW’s early intervention clinic and HMP Parc and YOI. Spencer is now working as a Behaviour Analyst with Green Light’s Positive Behaviour Support Team.
Q: Where are you from and where do you live now?
A: I am from Cornwall, however I spent 5 years in South Wales for university and work. I have recently relocated back to the South East of Cornwall.
Q: How did you hear about Green Light ?
A: I first became aware of Green Light whilst studying at the University of South Wales when a lecturer highlighted the company to myself as a place of interest. Following this I have followed Green Light through, the fantastic, social media pages which highlight the great work done.
Q: Why did you decide to work for Green Light ?
A: Working for Green Light gives me an opportunity to help and support people in the county which I am from. Furthermore, Green Light provides an opportunity for me to further develop myself with the support of an innovative company and team.
Q: What is your previous experience of autism or learning disabilities?
A: My previous experience in autism and learning disabilities is primarily in early years. I have experience in a number of settings from specialist clinics through to mainstream school, working alongside a number of different professionals to help the client achieve their goals.
Q: Do you have any special skills/hobbies or interests?
A: I am Board Certified Behaviour Analyst registered with the UK Society for Behaviour Analysis and have special interest in; behaviours that challenge, obsessive compulsive behaviour and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Q: When not working what are you most likely to be doing?
A: I am most likely to be found outside enjoying what the world has to offer, whether it is on my doorstep or around the world.
Q: What do you have on your bucket list?
A: Top 3 Bucket list items are: Travel New Zealand, learn to surf, and play cricket at Lords.
Q: Who is your hero or heroine & why?
A: Currently I look up to Jacinda Ardern due to the model she provides in global leadership, using empathy and understanding as a basis for representative and fair leadership.
