First Inspection for Tanglewood: Good Overall with Outstanding Leadership
When Green Light initially took over Tanglewood from its former owners, the property—which has a long operational history in the St Austell area—had reached a state of disrepair, reflected in inspections at the time. A complete physical and operational restructuring was required to bring the environment to an acceptable, modern standard so it could be registered with the Care Quality Commission again, as a home for three people with learning disabilities and autism. Our team worked in close collaboration with people and their families to configure the home into a bright, warm, welcoming space—a home from which they could thrive and enjoy their lives. The building was completely remodelled, structurally adapted, and a skilled team was brought together led by Chris Kidd and Deputy Manager Ashley Crocker.

The home was officially assessed by the CQC on 29 April 2026, with a further unannounced follow-up inspection on 30 April 2026. Evaluated against the national guidelines of ‘Right support, right care, right culture‘ and the CQC’s new assessment framework, Tanglewood achieved an overall rating of **Good**, securing an **Outstanding** rating specifically for its leadership and governance systems.See video explainer of ‘right support, right care, right culture’

Because some people were unable to voice their perspectives directly to inspectors, the CQC arrived at their findings following careful, focused observations. The report reflects the warm, supportive interactions and a relaxed environment in which individuals actively exercise control over their daily lives. The CQC captured first-hand feedback from relatives and external professionals alike:

This assessment is a testament to what can be created when an empowered staff team, collaborative families, and specialised support are moving in the same direction together. Tanglewood shows us what is possible when care is intentionally designed. Congratulations to Chris, Ash and the whole Tanglewood team for achieving this result on their very first inspection!
