Sharon joined Green Light in August 2024, bringing over 14 years of professional experience in support work and care. She holds an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care and has a background in high-pressure environments, including Treliske Hospital’s A&E and Trauma departments. These experiences have helped her develop patience, resilience, and the ability to handle challenges with confidence and composure.
In addition to her professional expertise, Sharon has personal experience supporting family members with cerebral palsy and Asperger’s Syndrome. This has further enhanced her empathy, understanding, and ability to connect with individuals who have diverse needs.
Sharon is now a valued member of the Pendragon team in Newquay, where she supports an individual with autism living independently in their own home.
Here’s a Q& A with Sharon
Q: Where are you from, and where do you live now?
A: I’m originally from Newmarket, but I’ve lived in Cornwall for the past 45 years. I now live in St Austell.
Q: How did you hear about Green Light?
A: I found Green Light on Indeed. The company sounded really interesting, so I decided to apply.
Q: Why did you decide to work for Green Light?
A: When I came in for my interview, I felt so welcomed by the recruitment team. I loved how much Green Light values both its staff and clients—it made me feel really happy and excited to join.
Q: What’s your previous experience with autism or learning disabilities?
A: I’ve worked in a primary school for six years, where I gained a lot of experience with autism. On a personal level, my son is autistic, which has deepened my understanding. I’ve also spent 16 years in care, working with individuals of all ages with autism and learning disabilities—a role I’ve truly enjoyed.
Q: Do you have any special skills, hobbies, or interests?
A: I love exploring new places, especially if there’s a castle involved! I recently visited Scotland to explore castles and lochs, and I’m already planning to return next year to delve into more history. When I’m not travelling, I enjoy curling up with a good book.
Q: What are you most likely to be doing when you’re not working?
A: I enjoy discovering new walking spots with my 12-week-old puppy. Together, we’re always out and about, searching for new places to explore.
Q: What’s on your bucket list?
A: I’d love to see Orcas in the wild in Canada. Another dream of mine is to travel across Europe in a camper van.
Q: Who is your hero or heroine, and why?
A: My nana is my hero. She was a hardworking woman who always had a smile on her face and an amazing personality. I hope I can be as strong and kind as she was.
