Jay Michie joined Green Light in September 2023. Jay is part of the Poldark team, led by Registered Manager Ryan Smith. The team supports a very active young man with a learning disability and autism.
Q: Where are you from and where do you live now?
A: Scotland/Derbyshire now living in Porthtowan
Q: How did you hear about Green Light ?
A: Through friends that currently work or have worked for green light
Q: Why did you decide to work for Green Light ?
A: After working for the same company for almost 12 years I was ready for a change and a different work life, my job before involved all the work inside a workshop, so the idea of being able to make a change and make a positive impact on someone’s life whilst being active really made the choice easy.
Q: What is your previous experience of autism or learning disabilities?
A: Volunteered at Dreadnaught centre in 2017 for 6 months every Thursday evening, located in Carnbrea.
Q: Do you have any special skills/hobbies or interests?
A: I picked up a lot of skills working for Eco wagon over the years, these included wood work and general metal and work on all the tools, we did every aspect of building Campervans so I learnt many skills. When I left Eco wagon I was workshop foreman/manager, this enabled me to work every well as part of a team and have good communication skills. I have a wide variety of hobbies, these included Surfing, mountain biking, swimming, running, golf, football and socialise as much as I can. I also volunteer for the Cornwall Archaeology society getting involved when I have time to go to sites and help excavate or take part in digs.
Q: When not working what are you most likely to be doing?
A: Surfing, walking the dog or spending time with my Partner.
Q: What do you have on your bucket list?
A: I’d love to travel more across Europe in my van. Also going to Egypt is something I’d love to do.
Q: Who is your hero or heroine & why?
A: David Attenborough. He’s done so much for the natural world and educating us on how important nature and life is.
Q: What three words sum up your personality?
A: Happy, laid back, caring.
