At Green Light PBS Ltd., we’re looking for caring individuals to join us as Behaviour Technicians. Since this is a relatively new and evolving role, you might not be familiar with what a BT does—so let’s break it down simply.
A Behaviour Technician works directly with people who have learning disabilities or autism, focusing on helping them develop positive behaviours and skills that promote greater independence. Imagine assisting someone in learning to manage their emotions, improve communication, or develop skills that allow them to do more things on their own. That’s the essence of what a Behaviour Technician does!
What Does a Behaviour Technician Do?
In this role, you’ll work closely with individuals who need extra support. You’ll help them develop new skills, such as managing frustration, improving social interactions, or becoming more independent in daily life. These tasks may seem simple to many of us, but for some people, they can be significant challenges.
You won’t be doing this work alone. You’ll be guided by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA)—an specialist who designs personalised plans for individuals with learning disabilities and autism who need additional support. Your role will be to implement those plans, monitor progress, and ensure the person you’re supporting feels safe and well cared for. You’ll regularly check in with your supervisor to make sure everything is going smoothly and that the support remains effective.
Why Is This Role Important?
As a Behaviour Technician, you’ll be working directly with the individuals we support, playing a key role in their growth and development. Your efforts will help them overcome challenges, gain independence, and improve their quality of life. Every day, you’ll be making a real difference.
You’ll also be part of a team that believes in doing things the right way. At Green Light our PBS team follow strict ethical guidelines, and we provide continuous training to ensure you always have the knowledge and skills needed for the job. Respect, confidentiality, and working in the best interests of the individuals we support are core values we uphold.
How Do I Become a Behaviour Technician?
This role is ideal for someone who has experience supporting children or adults with learning disabilities or autism and is eager to delve deeper into the theoretical side of learning and the science of behaviour. We will provide 40 hours of theoretical training to get you started. After that, you’ll gain hands-on experience by working alongside experienced staff while developing your skills and competence as a Behaviour Technician. Within approximately six months, you’ll be ready to take an exam to become a Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT)—an internationally recognised certification that demonstrates your qualifications for the role.
Why Work with Us?
At Green Light we are gradually expanding to support 3 or 4 additional individuals a year who need our services on top of the 48 people we already support well. We currently have five Behaviour Technicians on our team and are looking to recruit five more in the next year and others thereafter. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team that’s making a real impact in Cornwall. You’ll work closely with individuals, families, and experts in the field, receive ongoing support, and build a fulfilling career.
Ready to Make a Difference?
If you’re passionate about helping others and want to make a meaningful impact, this could be the perfect role for you. With opportunities for growth and a supportive team, we’re confident that you’ll find both personal and professional fulfilment as a Behaviour Technician.
