Following welcome and introductions, a range of topics were covered, from the experience of the behaviour technician training team members have undertaken, or are currently undertaking, and questions relating to theory and a discussion on the supervision requirements and expectations of the role.  Behaviour Technicians work flexibly across and within Green Light’s teams with individuals with learning disabilities, as good practice leaders, to provide support to people with personally meaningful goals.  They are involved in skills teaching, supporting effective communication, coping strategies and supporting people to reduce behaviour that impacts on health, well being, or quality of life.  Behaviour Technicians complete specific technical skills training in measurement and assessment, skills acquisition, behaviour reduction, documentation and reporting and professional conduct and scope of practice.  After completing a 40 hour training programme, team members are supervised to demonstrate they are competent in the knowledge and skills learned.  Once deemed competent by their supervisor, a behaviour analyst, team members are eligible to sit an exam to become Registered Behaviour Technicians, an internationally recognised paraprofessional qualification.  Clarissa Mitchell passed this exam on 24th May 2023, becoming Green Light’s first Registered Behaviour Technician.  Registered Behaviour Technicians can then apply to become Practising Members of the UKSBA – UK Society for Behaviour Analysis the professional body for behaviour analysis in the UK.
