A New Chapter at The Mews: Continuing Care with Community and Stability

At Green Light, our focus remains on supporting the well-being and personal development of the individuals in our care. The opening of The Mews in Goonhavern marked a significant step forward in providing independent living opportunities for people, some of whom have been supported by Green Light for many years. This development offers more than just high-quality housing—it ensures continuity in the support and relationships that both individuals and their families deeply value, which has been critical to previous successes.

The Mews provided two young men with the opportunity to transition into homes of their own.  While they had already achieved a certain degree of independence, they were ready for the next step in their lives. Familiar team members, managers, and family members were there to offer support, helping people settle confidently into this new chapter.

In collaboration with local developer Quadpart Investments Ltd., these newly constructed two-bedroom, three-bathroom homes were designed from the ground up, in partnership with Green Light, to meet the specific needs of adults with learning disabilities and autism.

Individuals were assisted in demonstrating their eligibility for affordable housing to rent under a Cornwall Council Section 106 agreement, including a local connection to the area. Trusted team members supported moves, ensuring the stability needed for a smooth transition. With nearly all homes now occupied and the final resident expected to move in by Christmas 2024, this development represents a significant milestone for Green Light.

Beyond providing housing, The Mews has fostered a genuine sense of community. Positive relationships with neighbours have developed, creating social opportunities that help guard against loneliness and social isolation.

Lewis Edwards, the manager at The Mews, along with his team, continues to provide support tailored to individual needs, with a particular emphasis on the social communication needs often experienced by those with learning disabilities and autism.

The capacity created by individuals moving to The Mews has allowed Green Light’s teams to respond to the needs of two other young people. One has moved into newly renovated ‘upgraded’ accommodation designed specifically to meet their needs, while another is preparing to move in from a home that is about to close.

At Green Light, we remain dedicated to delivering personalised support and high-quality living environments. The opening of The Mews reflects our ongoing commitment to adapting to the evolving needs of those we support, ensuring they continue to receive the best possible care.
