Congratulations to Green Light Registered Manager and Physical Intervention Trainer Kerry Gardiner.
Kerry has been awarded a Diploma in Practice Leadership in Reducing Restrictive Practices by the Restraint Reduction Network.
Kerry joined Green Light in 2013 with over 20 years of professional experience in the Health & Social Care Sector, with a special interest in learning disabilities, autism, and challenging behaviour. Kerry led the accreditation of Green Light’s BILD Act Certified PBS+ Physical Intervention Training to become certified in August 2022.
Kerry is amongst the very first cohorts to complete this new qualification, developed by The Restraint Reduction Network, the sister charity of the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD).
Kerry explained:
“The course covered principles of restrictive practice reduction and the need for practitioners like myself to nurture capable environments with the people we support. Capable environments are environments that have been proven to create greater choice, dignity, autonomy, and well-being, and better safeguards for people’s rights. In capable environments, person-centered approaches and support strategies that promote personal growth and well-being are fostered. In capable environments, challenging behaviour, and the reactive, restrictive practices often arising because of this, become unnecessary.”
