Welcome, Leanne! Can you start by telling us a little about Green Light PBS Ltd. and what the company stands for?
Leanne: Of course! Green Light PBS Ltd. was founded in 2010 in Redruth, Cornwall, with a simple but powerful mission: to empower people to lead a lifestyle they’re proud of. We’ve grown steadily since then and our 300-strong workforce now support 50 adults with learning disabilities and autism in family-style homes, flats, and apartments across Cornwall. Our focus is always on providing high-quality, person-centred care that allows people to thrive and live life on their own terms.
The Basics of Green Light
Who does Green Light support?
Leanne: Green Light specifically supports adults with learning disabilities and autism. Unlike some providers who serve a broad range of needs—such as elderly care, dementia support, or mental health services—our services focus on this specific population. Everything we offer, from our accommodation to our staff training, is tailored to meet the unique needs of people with learning disabilities and autism.
Where is Green Light based?
Leanne: We’re based in Cornwall, with homes in or near most major towns. Our head office and training facilities are located in Newquay, but we serve people across Cornwall. It’s a beautiful part of the country, and our homes are never far from the stunning coastline.
Are there opportunities to grow and develop with the company?

Tanglewood, nr St Austell
Leanne: Yes! Green Light has grown quite slowly and organically over the last 15 years, to support around 3 people people a year. We now support 50 people and are excited to be opening a new home, Tanglewood, in Lanjeth, near St Austell. This is close to two other homes we have in East Cornwall, as we tend to cluster homes for social and support opportunities. Tanglewood is a spacious modern bungalow designed for three adults with learning disabilities and autism. As we grow, this creates opportunities for people interested in taking on more responsibility and gaining more experience for their career.

What experience or qualifications do I need to apply?
Leanne: For most roles, no formal qualifications are required—we’re looking for people with the right values, attitude, and willingness to learn. Experience in care is helpful but not essential, as we provide full training. For senior roles, leadership experience and relevant qualifications in social care or management are essential.
What’s the salary and benefits package like?
Leanne: We offer competitive pay, which varies depending on the role and experience. Our benefits include:
- Comprehensive induction and ongoing training
- Career progression opportunities
- Generous paid holiday and sick leave
- Pension contributions
- Access to an Employee Assistance Programme for confidential support
Daily Life and Support
What does a Support Worker actually do day-to-day?
Leanne: Support Workers help people live their best lives. This can include:
- Supporting with personal care, such as washing, dressing, and medication management
- Helping people develop life skills like cooking, cleaning, and managing personal finances
- Encouraging participation in hobbies and activities, from swimming and walking to arts and crafts
- Building relationships and empowering individuals to reach their goals
Every day is different, and your work is driven by the unique needs and wishes of the person you’re supporting.
What’s the shift pattern like?
Leanne: We provide 24/7 support, so shift patterns can include day shifts, evenings, and weekends. Some staff are employed and trained to work waking nights, particularly for individuals who may need overnight support—for example, for epilepsy care.
These shifts are scheduled in advance by managers to ensure fair rotation and that individual preferences are taken into account.
What mental health and well-being support is available?
Leanne: We care deeply about the well-being of our teams. In addition to our Employee Assistance Programme, we provide regular check-ins with managers, supportive supervision sessions, and foster a positive, collaborative team culture where everyone’s voice is heard.
Training and Career Development
What training is provided to new starters?
Leanne: Every new team member goes through a comprehensive induction lasting two to three weeks. It includes classroom-based learning on topics like safeguarding, communication, autism, and positive behaviour support, as well as on-the-job training with experienced staff.
Are there opportunities for further qualifications?
Leanne: Yes! We encourage continuous learning and offer opportunities to gain qualifications in Health and Social Care. For those interested in more specialised roles, we provide training in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), and leadership development.
Can I transition into a leadership role?
Leanne: Absolutely! Many of our managers started as Support Workers and worked their way up. For those with leadership potential, roles like Deputy Manager and Registered Manager are clear next steps.
Team Culture and Practicalities
What is the team culture like?
Leanne: Our culture is supportive, inclusive, and collaborative. Managers are approachable and hands-on, and we believe in learning from each other and celebrating successes.
Will I have a mentor or buddy to help me settle in?
Leanne: Yes! New starters are paired with experienced team members who act as mentors during the induction. This helps new staff feel confident and supported as they get to know the role and the people they’ll be supporting.
How is travel handled between locations?
Leanne: Most of our homes are within a short driving distance of each other. While you’ll usually be assigned to one home, it’s helpful to have a driver’s license in case you’re covering different sites or attending training.
Final Words from Leanne
Leanne, what’s the one thing you’d say to someone considering a role with Green Light?
Leanne: As someone who has been with the company from day one, I can honestly say that if you want a rewarding, meaningful career where you can truly change lives, Green Light is the perfect place. Every day is an opportunity to make a difference and help someone live the life they choose. It’s not always easy, but it’s incredibly fulfilling.
