Jake’s Adventure in Pembroke: Castles, Coastlines, and New Experiences

On the morning of April 29, our team and ‘Jake’ set off for a much-anticipated trip to Pembroke. We made a quick stop in Cardiff to charge the car, giving Jake the perfect chance to stretch his legs and enjoy a sandwich in the sunshine.

Our Airbnb was a real gem—nestled right beside a beautiful 12th-century castle and overlooking the River Pembroke. After settling in, we headed out for a top-up shop and a peaceful stroll around the village. Jake loved exploring the historic castle grounds on our way back, clearly excited for the days ahead.

The next morning, we made our way to Pembroke Castle. It’s one of the best-preserved castles from the 12th century, and it didn’t disappoint. There was so much to see, and Jake thoroughly enjoyed taking his time to explore the grounds. After a relaxed brunch back at the Airbnb, we continued our day with a visit to the local marina, where we booked a boat trip for the following day. From there, we headed to Freshwater West Beach, spending a few hours soaking up the sun and sea air. The day wrapped up with dinner at a nearby pub—good food and great company.

The following day brought even better weather, and after a light breakfast, we went for a walk along the river and around the lake that surrounds Pembroke Castle. Jake especially enjoyed taking in the peaceful views and relaxing on a bench by the water. After brunch, we set off for the colourful town of Tenby—a definite highlight of the trip. The sun was shining, and the boat ride to Caldey Island couldn’t have been more perfect. Jake was thrilled to spot seals and seabirds, and his big smile said it all.

Back on dry land, we enjoyed some ice cream and explored more of Tenby before finishing the day with another exciting visit—this time to Carew Castle. It was a fantastic way to end the adventure. We capped off the evening with dinner at The Carew Inn, just a stone’s throw from the castle, where Jake tucked into a well-earned fish and chips.

This holiday was a truly positive experience for Jake. It was wonderful to see him so happy, engaged, and eager to explore. His confidence continues to grow, and he’s always surprising us with his enthusiasm for trying new things. The consistent support provided by the Green Light team is helping Jake live a fulfilling, active life—and these kinds of getaways are a great reminder of just how much he’s thriving.
