About Green Light
Established in 2009 with the Mission of “empowering people to achieve a lifestyle they’re proud of’, Green Light PBS Ltd. provides accommodation and tailored support to adults with autism, learning disabilities and other complex needs from small registered care homes across Cornwall, UK.
‘Positive Behaviour Support’ (PBS) is the accepted best practice response to supporting people with learning disabilities who display challenging behaviour. “PBS is a person centred framework for providing long term support to people with a learning disability, and/or autism, including those with mental health conditions, who have, or may be at risk of developing, behaviours that challenge. It is a blend of person centred values and behavioural science and uses evidence to inform decision-making. (British Institute of Learning Disabilities, The PBS Academy, The Challenging Behaviour Foundation, Health Education England & Skills for Care, April 2017)
Recognising the fact that behavioural science is a key aspect of the blend required to bring about the quality of life goals expected of PBS, Green Light has steadily built a team of Behaviour Analysts. These are Masters level students of the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis “…a values-driven, person-centred, developmentally-informed, evidence-based, effective use of the principles of learning to help people achieve their full potential.” (Carl Hughes, 2015)
Green Light’s PBS team now work collaboratively with our teams and the individuals they support, in a variety of outcome-focused ways:
- Building quality relationships with individuals to understand their wants, needs and personal goals
- Supporting individuals whose behaviour puts them at risk of exclusion or other harm
- Training, supporting and learning from colleagues to understand and empathise with those they support
- Supporting individuals who needs additional, or more tailored help, to develop effective prosocial skills, for example effective communication, strategies to cope with stressors, etc.
Purpose of Role
The Behaviour Analyst Internship role was created in December 2019 to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and clinical practice, and build capacity to meet demand for high-quality, outcome-focused care and support, by nurturing newly-qualified emerging talent. As a Behaviour Analyst Intern you will be embedded as part of a care team, or small number of care teams providing care and support to adults with learning disabilities and autism in small registered care homes in Cornwall. Each home’s team is led by a Registered Manager, registered with the Care Quality Commission. Clinical Supervision will be provided by a Behaviour Analyst, UKBA(cert) who will support you to demonstrate competence in the UK-SBA values led Competence Framework.
Reflections from Past Interns
In the 3.30 minute video below University of Bangor Graduates Chloe Brindley and Darina Donnellan reflect on their experience of relocating to Cornwall to join Green Light’s internship programme, building on this experience to progress on to their current roles of Assistant Behaviour Analyst and Board Certified Behaviour Analyst with the company.
