We’re thrilled to introduce you to one of our newest team members, Karl Fice-Thomson! At Green Light, we love getting to know the people who make our work possible, and we’re excited to share a bit about Karl with our colleagues, the people we support, and their families.
Karl joins us as our new Engagement & Enrichment Coordinator. He comes with a wealth of experience from the education sector, most recently at Trenance Learning Academy. His background includes leading Community Classrooms and developing the innovative Beach School, where he delivered nature-based learning experiences to build confidence, resilience, and curiosity in children. His passion for inclusive, tailored engagement makes him an ideal fit for this new role in our PBS team.
About Karl’s Role
As our Engagement & Enrichment Coordinator, Karl will be instrumental in enhancing the lives of the people we support. His key responsibilities will include:
- Planning and facilitating inclusive, home and community-based activities that promote enjoyment, development, and social connection.
- Collaborating with our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and management teams to align activities with person-centred goals and behavioural needs.
- Coaching and training staff on engagement strategies, promoting independence and creativity in support.
- Monitoring and reporting on outcomes to continuously improve the quality and impact of engagement.
Karl’s work will help bring structure and creativity, ensuring the people we support enjoy meaningful opportunities that enhance confidence, independence, and inclusion. His contributions will also foster a positive and proactive culture across our teams, keeping quality of life at the forefront.
Get to Know Karl!
Karl originally hails from Devon, having moved to Cornwall at 17, and now calls Newquay home. He heard about Green Light through friends and family, and we’re so glad he did!
When asked why he decided to work with us, Karl shared his enthusiasm for Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), stating, “Loved the idea of PBS, and learning how to apply this to benefit the people we support.” This passion is clearly rooted in his extensive experience.
Beyond his professional background, Karl brings a wealth of special skills and interests. He’s incredibly passionate about person-centred approaches and Positive Behaviour Support planning. He also enjoys outdoor education, creative lesson design, and building strong, trusting relationships with those he works with and alongside.
So, what’s Karl up to when he’s not working? You’ll most likely find him spending time with his family, exploring the coast, rock pooling, engaging in strength and conditioning training, and always developing new ideas for inclusive, engaging activities.
Karl’s aspirations are truly inspiring. On his bucket list, he hopes to build a school for SEN children based around PBS principles, travel, and simply be a great Dad and Husband.
And who is his hero? Without hesitation, Karl named his wife! “Absolute LEGEND. Gave birth to our beautiful children and puts up with me!” We couldn’t agree more, Karl!
Finally, when asked to sum up his personality in three words, Karl chose Compassionate, Creative, Reliable. These are qualities we deeply value at Green Light, and we’re confident they’ll make him an invaluable addition to our team.
Please join us in giving Karl a warm welcome when you meet him and tap into his endless creativity and lust for life!
