Published by Jo on 25th April 2022

Steven Hill moved to Cornwall from the midlands in 2015, joining Green Light in February 2022, after several years with another autism care provider where Steven supported elderly individuals with learning disabilities.  Steven brings a wealth of experience gained in the hospitality and education sectors to his new team, having been a chef, chef mentor, lifeguard and secondary school teacher.  Steven joined the Comprigney Vean team who together support one person in the home on the edge of Truro city.

Q: Where are you from and where do you live now?

A: I was original born and raised in Wolverhampton and moved to Cornwall in 2015. I currently live in the Newquay area with my wife and 2 cats.

Q: How did you hear about Green Light ?

A: Word of mouth

Q: Why did you decide to work for Green Light ?

A: I was looking for a supportive organisation who value their staff. I was also seeking a good work life balance. Green Light ticked all the boxes and their CQC reports demonstrated their commitment to quality care

Q: What is your previous experience of autism or learning disabilities?

A: 5 years with another care provider for people with autism locally. I also worked as a teacher for a number of years whilst living in the Midlands

Q: Do you have any special skills/hobbies or interests?

A: I practice Karate, which is my main interest at the moment, and hope to achieve my black belt with hard work and dedication. I also surf. I am a keen cook (being an ex chef) and take an interest in nutrition related to sport.

Q: When not working what are you most likely to be doing?

A: Practicing Karate, in the gym or having a swim. I may also be attempting to play the guitar (badly) or walking the coast path. Of course if the waves are good, I may be in the sea!

Q: What do you have on your bucket list?

A: Visit Japan would be number one on the list (I would like to see what a ‘real’ dojo is like). Living in Cornwall was top of my list for a number of years, but that’s ticked off now 🙂

Q: Who is your hero or heroine & why?

A: Kelly Slater (surfer) who at 50 years old is still mixing it up with the best in the world. He is a shining example that age is just a number!

Q: What three words sum up your personality?

A: Fun-loving, conscientious, loyal
