Lakme joined Green Light in November 2020 initially as a Support Worker, then Senior Support Worker before becoming a Behaviour Technician in September 2022.  Lakme was involved in the pilot study behind this training, which was completed before the Behaviour Technician role was launched.  She is currently as part of the Thornbury House team, led by Natasha Gregovich who supports two individuals living at the home near Redruth, Cornwall.

Q: Where are you from and where do you live now?

A: I have a diverse heritage, my mum is Tatar from Romania, my dad is Turk. I have lived both in Romania and Turkey and now I live in the beautiful outskirts of Truro.

Q: How did you hear about Green Light?

A: I have heard of Green Light from someone who previously worked with Green Light. She said she has fond memories of working with the company and she encouraged me to apply.

Q: Why did you decide to work for Green Light ?

A: It appeared to me that Green Light is different and I always encountered support workers from Green Light out and about and they always seemed to have a positive attitude!

Q: What is your previous experience of autism or learning disabilities?

A: I have worked as Biofeedback/Neurofeedback therapist in Turkey and I have worked with children and young adults with autism and learning disabilities and once I moved to the UK to continue my studies, I worked as a support worker with adults with autism and learning disabilities. Let’s say I have a long experience in this area and I always felt that this came naturally!

Q: Do you have any special skills/hobbies or interests?

A: I enjoy sublime and exquisite works of literature from the Latin poets such as Ovid, Persian literature, one of my favourite being the Rubaiyat from Hayyam, French literature such as Baudelaire, Zola and of course some existentialism from Sartre and Camus, which brings me to my other passion philosophy – the mother of sciences- where thought and morals and aesthetics are just an exaltation.  These two interests will definitely make me a good literary critic or at least this is what I like to believe! I also like reading and rereading Daniel Kahneman and once you read him too you will be hooked!”

Q: When not working what are you most likely to be doing?

A: Hot yoga, reading , exploring Cornwall and other realms, swimming and long political debates with my mom.

Q: What do you have on your bucket list?

A: I want to achieve a high state of intellectual refinement.

Q: Who is your hero or heroine & why?

A: I do not have a hero per se, but I think everyone who is making a difference in someone’s life from nurses, doctors, carers all of those people are heroes. Every person that I have met that is committed to improving other’s lives is a hero for me and I always look up to them.

Q: What three words sum up your personality?

A: Curious, keen, refined. Even though these three adjectives might not be enough to describe someone’s personality since human personality is complex and prone to change.
