Meet the Team – Jason Payne

Published by Jo on 22nd January 2022

Jason Payne joined Green Light as a Support Worker in December 2021 with many years experience in the retail, catering and hospitality sectors.  In his spare time Jason has spent the last decade serving in the Special Constabulary.  As a Sergeant Jason is often faced with sensitive distressing situations members of the public are having to cope with.  Jason prides himself on always being courteous, respectful and professional in such challenging situations.  Jason’s interest in autism arose after having some informal experience of spending time supporting a child with learning disabilities, an autism diagnosis and sensory needs who was struggling to communicate with others.

After completing his company induction with Green Light Jason joined the Springfield House team near Perranporth led by managers Sophie Hoskin and Kerry Gardiner.  Springfield is home to three people with autism and learning disabilities each having their own self-contained apartment within the home.

Q: Where are you from and where do you live now?

A: I’m originally from Worcestershire, but have been living in the Newquay area for a few years.

Q: How did you hear about Green Light ?

A: I heard about Green Light through their Social Media pages, which initially caught my eye. Then I saw that they were recruiting on a job search website.

Q: Why did you decide to work for Green Light ?

A: I wanted a change of scenery, and Green Light ticked all of the boxes in terms of appeal. I had a few questions about the role, so decided I would email the recruitment team to gain more of an insight. They were fabulous, and answered all of the questions I had. It was then I decided to attend an interview.

Q: What is your previous experience of autism or learning disabilities?

A: My experience with autism and learning difficulties has been sporadic throughout my working life, so I was excited to learn more. My brother was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome later in his life, so I was personally invested from the start.

Q: Do you have any special skills/hobbies or interests?

A: I do a lot of volunteering in the community in my spare time, which gives me a great sense of satisfaction.

Q: When not working what are you most likely to be doing?

A: Walking, exploring, and failing that, at home recharging!

Q: What do you have on your bucket list?

A: I don’t actually have one!

Q: Who is your hero or heroine & why?

A: John Lennon. You may say he was a dreamer, but he’s not the only one…

Q: What three words sum up your personality?

Eager, Steadfast & Helpful
